Gardener in Diss
The mere town and the clay villages around it. A proper day out from Norwich, so we batch the work.
Diss is far enough from Norwich that we do not pop down for a twenty-minute edge. It is close enough that a day’s work, or a morning grouped with Roydon, Scole or Burston, is straightforward. The town gardens around the Mere and the older streets are established: hedges, brick, damp corners, and lawns that sit wet after a week of rain.
South Norfolk clay is the storey under most of these gardens. It smears if you work it when it is sodden, and it grows a fine lawn if you stay off it in January and scarify when the grass can recover. Paths and patios need a fall that still works when the ground is full of water. A patio pitched the wrong way ends up as a pond against the house.
We cover Diss itself and the Norfolk villages immediately around it. Just over the river into Suffolk, we will quote if the job is already beside a Diss day — we will not pretend Palgrave is a separate weekly round. Ring with the village and the job, not just the postcode of the town.

Services in Diss
The full list is available here. These are the local reasons people book each one, not a copied menu.
- Jet washingShady patios and paths. We will not promise a new surface, only a clean one.
- Fence replacementPosts fail where they stand in wet clay. Gravel boards earn their keep here.
- Fence & gate repairsGates dropping as posts move. Often a post replacement rather than a new gate.
- Hedge trimmingBeech, hornbeam and privet in the town. One proper cut, timed with an eye on nests, beats three panicked ones.
- Tree pruningSmall garden trees and fruit. Anything large near the Mere or the road is likely a tree surgeon, and may need the council.
- Lawn care & turf installationScarify in autumn, not in a wet February. New turf waits for ground you can walk on without leaving a boot full of clay.
- Regular garden maintenancePossible on a grouped round. A lone weekly mow in Diss is a long way to go for one lawn, and we will say if we cannot make the travel fair.
- Garden design & makeoversOlder gardens that have become all hedge and no border. We open them up without turning them into a car park.
- Patios, paving & deckingFalls matter on this clay. We set them before we order the slabs, not after the first puddle.
